These signs are finished with a photoluminescent coating. During the day, this absorbs light from both natural and artificial sources and essentially 'charges' the sign. In the event of a power cut or during any low light scenario, the sign will glow and allow the information to be clearly read. In the case of British Standard Exit sign, this also acts as a location marker to signal where on a floor the exit is situated. During exit procedures, employees and visitors will be able to clearly identify where their closes exit is, regardless of the light situation.
